LYNN - Acting Fire Chief Dennis Carmody said negotiations with unionized firefighters and officers and prioritizing 2010 spending needs are top goals he will work on once he ties up loose ends associated with his appointment to the Fire Department's top job.

Municipalties could save millions

Rhode Island cities and towns could save more than $67 million a year if state lawmakers approve a money-saving plan that would reduce spending on health care, pensions and other high-cost areas, a new report by the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council concludes.
